Respectful Relationships
Following the announcement that Jells Park PS has been chosen to be a lead school for the Respectful Relationships program, I wanted to address the content of the curriculum.
The recent media and public conversations has connected Respectful Relationships with Gender Identity and Sexual Consent education, giving the impression that these are the only aspects addressed in the curriculum. This is far from the case.
Importantly it needs to be understood that the Respectful Relationships curriculum is from Foundation to Level 10 and that the curriculum for each is very different and is developed on a progressive platform. Our recent training for Respectful Relationships introduced the topics in the following way:
Topic 1: Emotional Literacy
Topic 2: Personal Strengths
Topic 3: Positive Coping
Topic 4: Problem-solving
Topic 5: Stress management
Topic 6: Help-seeking
Topic 7: Gender & Identity *
Topic 8: Positive Gender Relationships *
* Topic 7 & 8 has a separate resource for Level 8-10 only.
For those parents wanting more detail, please have a look at the Introduction to Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships resource at the following link https://fuse.education.vic.gov.au/Resource/LandingPage?ObjectId=d722b857-8d78-4afd-8519-2bc7801d5590
Curriculum Day (Student Free Day)
This has been confirmed as Friday 28 May (end of Education Week). Please mark this in your diaries.
Can I strongly recommend parents look at the TeamKids program for this day. They are offering an entertaining and engaging range of activities for your children at a very reasonable cost. If you are still working from home - get the kids out from under your feet and have them entertained for the day by our wonderful TeamKids staff.
Education Week
Look out for Education Week, which has a theme of 'Community Connections'. Jells Park PS will have a number of activities on the week, including our Open Night on Wednesday 26 May. Another date for your diary!!
Term 2 Working Bee
Thanks to all the community that attended the Working Bee last week.
We got heaps done, including the two major jobs, and the school is looking terrific.
Potential Power Outage
We have been advised of a possible whole school power outage on Tuesday 11 May. School will still be OPEN and we will treat this day a little like Earth Day. It may be worth giving your child additional warm clothing for the day and ensuring that they have their own lunch, as the canteen may not be open.
Sibling Enrolments
I ask all families with a sibling child who is starting school in 2022 to submit an enrolment form now please. We will be offering out of zone applicant a position soon so I would hate to have an existing family miss out on enrolment.

Celebrations
Greek Orthodox Easter
We wish everyone celebrating Greek Orthodox Easter this Sunday a very happy day, we hope your day will be a lovely celebration. This morning I had a lovely conversation with a Level 5 student who is very much looking forward to seeing friends and family on Sunday.
Mothers Day
A very happy Mothers Day to all the JPPS mums on May the 9th. We hope all the children, big and small, spoil their mums on this special day.
My day will be spent with my family watching my son play footy and spending the evening with my mum.
Eid
On 12th May our Muslim families will be celebrating Eid, meaning “the feast of breaking the fast.” The fast, in this instance, is that of Ramadan. Enjoy this special, greatly anticipated religious occasion.
If your family is celebrating a significant cultural event please let me know so I can include it in our newsletter.
ANZAC Day
Last week our school captains led us in a very moving ANZAC day ceremony. We had a special guest Michael Black, Vice President of the local RSL attend. The significance of ANZAC day is not lost on our students who made beautiful wreaths as a show of respect to our past and current servicemen and women.
