Year 9 ASPIRE DAY

'The future is soon'

(Comment by a Year 9 Student)

Our first Greensborough College Year 9 ASPIRE Day was held recently.

This initiative aimed to encourage Year 9 students to take some time to reflect on their: academic growth and achievement data and their personal learning and career goals, with their Parents/Carers and Teachers.

Simultaneously, an alternative learning program was running in which students created visual representations of their ideal futures in the form of vision boards.

The day culminated in the Year 9 Morrisby Careers Assessment, administered by Miss Alexander and the CONNECT teaching team.

Student, parent and staff feedback about the day was overwhelming positive and we look forward to the checking in with students regarding the progress made in their academic and personal goals in Term 2.

Feedback:

ASPIRE Day was…

'Very informative and worthwhile. It was great to see how my son is travelling in Year 9. I really appreciated the teachers being able to “look outside the square” when it comes to assessments and looking for alternative ways to assess my son when one way may not be giving the most true indication of his ability.

(parent feedback)

'I found the ASPIRE day interview to be a very worthwhile experience as it gave me good insight into how my son is performing so far in Year 9.  It was also a great opportunity to ask some questions and interact with school staff'. (parent feedback)

'I enjoyed the vision board most. It was good for me too look at the things that inspire me'. (student feedback)

'I love how the parents can come in and talk about your progress. I like how the Teachers will help us individually instead of as a class'. (student feedback)

'I took Period 1. It was great to have kids thinking about their futures. Some students had difficulties thinking about their own strengths and abilities'.

(staff feedback)

Our gratitude is extended to all parents who attended interviews and the Greensborough College ASPIRE Team:

Ms Thomson, Ms Quan,  Mr Jenner, Ms Triance, and Ms Alexander.
