Principal's Report

March 2021

SHOWCASING OUR SCHOOL

It has been a pleasure to showcase our students, teachers, programs, facilities and building upgrades to more than 120 families who joined me on tours of the school this term.  We have conducted ten school tours this term with another five scheduled for term 2.  The positive and warm atmosphere of our school was noticed and commented on immediately by families as they were welcomed into classrooms by teachers. Students readily greeted visitors and spoke with them about their learning and achievements.  The pride our students showed in their school as they moved through the buildings and past touring groups was outstanding and displays of courtesy and friendliness were natural and authentic. As College Principal I am proud of our students and staff and of our collective achievements this term.

EXPLORE EVENING

On Wednesday 31ST March, prospective families are invited into the College to explore our teaching and learning programs.  Students will be dismissed at 2.20 pm and the College will be open to the community from 5.30 pm.  There will be a subject fair and school tours until 7.00pm.  This will be followed by a presentation of the College’s key achievements and highlights in the Performing Arts Centre. At 7.30 pm there will be an information session about our Athletic Development Program. Please share this information with your families, friends and other networks.

TURNING OF THE SOD – BUILDING UPDATE

Another momentous occasion for the College was the “Turning of the Sod” on Thursday 25th February. Colin Brooks, MP for Bundoora, turned the sod of the land upon which our new buildings will be constructed. He was joined by our Junior Captains, Will Baker and Eysha Denison, and our Senior Captains, Emily Beasley and Lexie Lieschke.

Construction has begun and the pre-slab services have been completed for the three new buildings. During the holidays the slabs will be poured and the community will begin to see these wonderful facilities take shape over the coming months.

GREENSBOROUGH COLLEGE

 SPORTS PRECINCT

The AFL oval and cricket facilities have been completed and the students now have use of these areas.  The soccer pitch and the pavilion will be completed mid-May with a formal opening ceremony scheduled for late May. The AFL squads were so excited to be the first students to use the ground this week.  Community clubs will have access to the facilities outside of school hours, once they are completed.

TRAFFIC SAFETY – PICK UP AND DROP OFF OUTSIDE SCHOOL GROUNDS ONLY

We are urging parents to only drop off and pick up students outside the school grounds. Please do not drop off or pick up in the car parks.

We would like parents and guardians to be mindful of the driveway entry to the school and of residents’ driveways as well.  Please avoid making three point turns into driveways or on nearby roads as this poses safety risks for residents, vehicles and pedestrians. Please keep driveways clear to allow for vehicles to enter.

EASTER AND TERM BREAK

Term 1 ends on Thursday 1st April at 2.20 pm and term 2 begins on Monday 19th April 9.00am.

I wish all students, staff and families all the very best for the term holidays and the festive season. Have a restful break and safe travels to those who will be holidaying.

Pauline Barker,

Principal
