New books 

The Library’s fiction collection is continually expanding thanks to recommendations from eager readers together with the Library’s Collection Development Policy. Some of our new titles include:

 

Listen, Layla by Yassmin Abdel-Magied. Shelved in Realistic Fiction ABD

Summary: Exploring the diaspora experience, race, politics and identity, Listen, Layla is an own voices novel for young readers, which bursts with passion, humour and truth. Layla has ended the school year on a high and can't wait to spend the holidays hanging out with her friends and designing a prize-winning Grand Designs Tourismo invention. But Layla's plans are interrupted when her grandmother in Sudan falls ill and the family rush to be with her.

 

 

Growing Up Disabled in Australia.

Summary: In this book disabled people tell their stories. This anthology shows the diversity of disability -- not just in terms of impairments, but also experiences. It includes interviews with prominent Australians such as Senator Jordon Steele-John and Paralympian Isis Holt, poetry and graphic art, as well as more than 40 original pieces by writers with a disability or chronic illness.

 

 

Boy21 by Matthew Quick. 

Shelved in Sport Fiction QUI

Summary: Finley, an unnaturally quiet boy who is the only white player on his high school's varsity basketball team, lives in a dismal Pennsylvania town that is ruled by the Irish mob. When his coach asks him to mentor a troubled African American student who has transferred there from an elite private school in California, he finds that they have a lot in common despite their apparent differences.

ERL membership

Thank you to everyone who recently responded to the Eastern Regional Libraries Membership Compass event. This event is now obsolete as we have been notified that ERL have recently changed their student sign up method. Parents and carers should now go to https://www.yourlibrary.com.au/students/ and fill in the registration form. Once signed up, students will receive a welcome email containing their digital library card number. Any member can also visit a library and collect a physical card if they wish.
