Year 9 Tree Planting

The Year 9 students went out to Narringal for their community service this week. In conjunction with the Catchment Management Authority and the wonderful Ballinger Family, we were able to pave a variety of trees and grasses as a replacement to invasive Poplar and Willow Trees, which were removed before our arrival. Before we started the hard and muddy work, we were kindly fed an energy sustaining BBQ lunch. Then it was down to business as the class split up into teams of three, where they were supplied with hole diggers, plants and shrouds to protect the plants. As a group they planted hundreds in a serene location with a flowing creek, where platypus play (although none were spotted).

A lot of hard work and fun was had and some students came home a lot muddier due to getting stuck in mud up to the top of their gumboots (most of which were kindly leant to us by the Ballingers). There were times where one student would get stuck and others would go to help and find themselves in the same predicament. I am glad to say that despite my size, that never happened to me as rescuing kids from the mud by literally grabbing the tops of their gumboots and pulling them out resulted in a lot of laughs. However, I did need an army of helpers to push the bus out before I ended up bogging it down to the axel.

It is such a privilege for us to be able to contribute to caring for God's beautiful creation in such a practicle way. Genesis 2:15.

VCE PE

Our VCE PE students have been working diligently through their latest topic on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Students recently completed their SAC task for this, all achieving terrific results. To further their knowledge on the topic area, students also had the opportunity to participate in a guided spa experience at Deep Blue. Students experienced the effect of contrast water therapy and according to all reports, came away very refreshed from the experience and eager to go again.

Sport Education

Our 26 Sport Education students have been hard at work this term working on their sports lab unit of work. Students have observed the inner workings of the heart during different exercise experiments, administered first aid through taping of different sports injuries, ranked their own fitness test results and developed a fully functional exercise program targeting the strengths and weaknesses of their test results. This week, students took to the King's College Fitness Studio to apply their program and refine the skills and techniques used in their circuit. Stay tuned for our upcoming excursion to round out this unit of work and help students develop a passion for lifelong physical activity.
