Round 1 House Football

Wednesday the 24th of May, saw the commencement of the House Football season. It was Wandara and Tanaranga with the Swedish colours (Blue and Yellow) taking on Taltarni and Kambara with the Christmas colours (Red and Green).

Blue and Yellow got the first goal through year 8 Josh Holm, with a nice mark and goal. Red and Green responded quickly with a beautiful overhead mark from Zac Spicer, who then went back to coolly slot the goal. Zac Bickerton was dominant inside the year 7 and 8 fifty, nailing a goal in the first half and being rock solid in defence in the second.

Umpire Webb threw the ball in the air to start the second half, as ruckmen Eric Wilkinson and Tom Lyons soared into the air to contest the ball. Despite captain/coach Zac Dally’s efforts in the midfield, with numerous inside 50s, Taltarni and Kambarra were unable to register a goal in the second half. Rory Bourke applied good pressure all day but only managed a point when attempting a banana. Liam Sage who laid many tackles came agonisingly close with his kick for goal, but it sailed into the post. Cooper Cahill and Ben Grant were engaged in tough battle throughout the match. Ben managed to catch Cooper holding the ball early on, but Cooper lifted, setting a goal up for Jacob Kellet who finished stylishly and getting a goal for himself, wheeling around on to his right foot just inside 50 to score.

Wandara/Tanaranga were simply too good on the day led in the midfield by captain/coach Ben Peacock who had plenty of support from Eric Wilkinson, Caleb Scanlon, Noah Scofield and Riley Burril all having plenty of the sherrin.

In the end Wandara/Tanaranga defeated Taltarni/Kambarra by 16 points
