Department of Education Regional Tour

This week we were visited by number of people in leadership roles within the Department of Education. David Howes (Deputy Secretary), Chris Thompson (Regional Director), and Jen McCrabb (Area Director) were conducting a regional tour and chose to come to BSC, to have a look at some of the great things that are happening in our setting. They made many complimentary comments about the quality of the teaching and learning they could see in our classrooms, as well as the positive interactions they observed with staff and students. They also admired the facilities we have at our school, including the design elements and attractive presentation of the buildings and grounds, as well as the way in which it is looked after and respected by our students. Our guests noticed a sense of ‘calm’ as they walked around our school and felt welcome in the environment.

We also welcomed Mark McClay, Maurice Billi and Shane Mathison from the Country Education Project (CEP) as part of the visit. They have recently been working with our Rural Youth Ambassadors, Praneel Kumar, Lochlan Welsh and Jet Kerr, who accompanied us on the tour of the school. This was followed with lunch, where we were joined by our School Captains, Bria and Jazz, before chatting with the boys about their experiences.

The conversation with our Department Representatives, the CEP and our students was a very positive discussion and a good acknowledgement of what young people can achieve through their involvement in our school, if they take advantage of the many opportunities that are on offer.
