Director of Campus

Last week we passed the midpoint of Term Two. These middle weeks of the term seem to be increasingly busy with many activities taking place to complement the curriculum and the academic programs of the College. I thank the students for their involvement in these activities and for their enthusiastic approach to their work and to College life.

Examinations

A reminder that the St Bede’s College Semester One Examinations will take place in Week 7 for students in Years 9.  I wish these students every success as they complete their classwork and revise for the exams. The younger students in Years 7 and 8 will continue to complete their topic assessments across their subjects during this period.

Staff Professional Learning Day

On Monday 22 May, the staff of the College were involved in a Professional Learning Day related to disciplinary literacy.  The sessions presented during this day were focussed on language, reading skills and further developing our students' understanding of command words – the instructions being asked to complete task and examination questions. These concepts are very important at all levels and need to develop as our students move through to higher levels. Thank you to our parents for their support for the staff with this learning.

Campus Counselling

Last week we welcomed Ms Robyn Bierman and Ms Pooja Gupta to our Campus. Ms Bierman and Ms Gupta join the College Counselling Team and will be based at Bentleigh East. We look forward to working with them in support of our students and families. They may be contacted through the College Office or via your son’s Year Level Coordinator.

Language Incursion

On Wednesday 24 May, the Bentleigh East Year 8 students travelled to Mentone to join their Mentone counterparts studying the same languages. After sharing recess together at Mentone, the Indonesian students watched traditional Indonesian performers. The Italian students listened to two Year 12 Italian students explain the benefits of studying Italian, followed by a performance of La Commedia dell’Arte. After both performances, the students enjoyed a lunch related to the cuisine of their language culture. This was a very enjoyable cultural showcase for the students from both campuses and thank you to the College Language staff for their organisation of this cross-campus activity.

ACC Sporting Competition

Students from all levels have been competing in the ACC weekly sporting competition which concludes in the coming weeks. Thank you to the students for their sportsmanship and encouragement of each other through this term. Although some teams have had mixed results, the Bentleigh East Campus Junior Football and Soccer teams remain undefeated and are working towards making finals.

In these weeks following Easter and as we celebrated Pentecost Sunday on 28 May, we are reminded to use this time, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit, to continue to renew our relationships with others and with God.

May we be Easter people and have the courage to spread the Good News of Jesus and to take action to live our faith through good works for others, especially for those in need.
