Sir Doug Nicholls Round
This year, the AFL will celebrate the Sir Doug Nicholls Round in the Toyota AFL Premiership Season, marking the seventeenth year that this dedicated round has been held and the eighth year it has been named in honour of Sir Doug Nicholls. The Sir Doug Nicholls Round celebrates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to the game of football and to the country. As of 2016, the Indigenous Round was renamed after Sir Doug Nicholls, the only AFL player to have been knighted and the first Aboriginal person to have served as a state governor.
On Wednesday 24 May, our St Bede's College 1st XVII Football Team had the privilege of playing a small part in honouring, recognising, respecting, and celebrating the amazing contributions of Indigenous communities, not only to the sporting fields but also to Australian society.
