Drumline Anzac Day Reflection

by Peter Robertson

It was an honour and such a privilege for myself and the St Bede’s Drumline to be asked for the 3rd year in a row to lead the Mentone RSL Anzac Day March.

I feel very proud leading the parade with my Drumline students.  They do such a great job on the day, giving up their time, showing respect and performing at their best.

It was also fantastic that one of our ex-students Will Marken wanted to take part in the march again. That in itself shows the importance of the day to the students.

Well done to the following Drumline students involved: Noah Angus, Jacob Craig, Jett Craig, Dean Fonti, Eliot Jurdukian, Will Marken, Jamie Ritzert, Alex Tanti and Austin Warfe.

Autumn Music Concert

Earlier this month we had the annual Autumn Music Concert which showcased many of the college’s ensembles.  Close to 70 students sang and performed on the evening.

Drumline showcased with their high energy choreographed piece followed by two VCE Music groups, performing well known pieces they have been working on.

The guitar ensemble performed in front of an audience for the first time, playing a four part arrangement of ‘Clocks’ by Coldplay.

The intermediate vocal ensemble sounded wonderful singing two pieces from their repertoire, which was then followed by the Jazz Ensemble as well as the Concert Band who presented a couple of songs.

In preparation for the Generations in Jazz Music Festival, the Senior Vocal Ensemble showcased their wonderful three part harmony arrangements.

A very successful evening!

A big thank you to all the Music Staff and Audio Visual staff who assisted on the night.

Generations in Jazz Festival

by Marcus Dun

I have never felt more inspired to play and sing, being surrounded by likeminded musicians. We went as a vocal ensemble and it has really inspired all of us to continue singing in as many ensembles as possible!

GIJ was an amazing experience and I am looking forward to next year!

Members of the Vocal Ensemble:

Xavier Brown (12)

Liam Close (10)

Marcus Dun (11)

Sam Foster (10)

Ethan Hepworth (11)

Alexander Hodgkins (11)

Lachlan Hodgkins (10)

Flynn Hunter (10)

Musashi Roche (12)

Lucas Shaw (11)

Thank you to Drew Downing for his vocal expertise, effort and time (morning rehearsals) in preparing the singers for this event.

We wouldn’t have been able to make the trip up without Geoff Brown who drove us there and back safely.  We left at 7:30am last Friday morning, arrived in Mentone around 9pm Sunday night (lots of driving!).

Thank you to Laura McCormick for her support and helping to organise the students throughout.

A big massive thank you to Kelly Allan for making sure that all the students and families received the information for the weekend.
