Benilde House

Another busy couple of months, and some fantastic achievements from our boys in Benilde.

It was amazing to see many of the Benilde boys showing up to school events such as International Women’s Day and the Mother’s Day breakfast.

Unfortunately, we placed 4th in house debating, however the effort was there and Tom Gregory, Nathan Murphy and Josh Gould certainly making Benilde proud, and demonstrating that Benilde Spirit!

Congratulations to Joshua Chu who was selected as the Most Outstanding Performer for ACC tennis.  Joshua won this award as a Year 11 student last year which is a rare feat.  Congratulations Josh.

Congratulations to our cricketers from Benilde House who also made ACC Team of the Year.

On Friday 12 May a group of representatives from St Bede’s College and students from Benilde house had the privilege of attending the Reef Renaming Ceremony at Aspendale beach in memory of Rhys Gillard.

The Reef is now called Rhys Reef, a fitting tribute to a fine young man, who was taken from us far too soon.

We also remembered Rhys in a Benilde house prayer service on Monday 15 May to acknowledge the 2 year anniversary, May 13 2021, of Rhys’s passing.  It was lovely to have the Gillard family in attendance – Anna, David, Austen and Tom.   They are always in our thoughts and prayers.

A poem by John O’Donohue, titled “On the Death of the Beloved”

“Though we need to weep your loss, You dwell in that safe place in our hearts,

Where no storm or night or pain can reach you.

Your love was like the dawn, brightening over our lives

Awakening beneath the dark, a further adventure of colour.

The sound of your voice found for us a new music that brightened everything.

Though your days here were brief, your spirit was alive, awake, and complete.

Though we cannot see you with outward eyes, we know our soul’s gaze is upon your face,

and you are smiling back at us from within everything

May you continue to inspire us to enter each day with a generous heart,

to serve the call of courage and love until we see your beautiful face again in that land where there is no more separation.

Where all tears will be wiped from our mind, and where we will never lose you again.”
