Islamic Museum of Australia

Students across year 7 have visited the Islamic Museum of Australia to connect their learning of the text The Boy With Two Lives and the experiences of migrants from Muslim backgrounds. The students travelled by public transport, met Sherene, the educational facilitator, and heard her experiences dealing with Islamophobia. Then, we toured the students around the museum to show them art by Muslim artists, innovations, and inventions shared by Muslim communities (chess), look at the architecture of Mosques, and look at the practices of Islam.

I really enjoyed my trip to the Islamic Museum. When we went there, I learnt a lot more about different cultures and I think I will understand our next topic in English a lot more after the trip. It was really fun being there with my friends and learning new things.

On Monday we went to the Islamic Museum. We were introduced to all the different Islamic traditions and beliefs. It was eye-opening to see how Muslims were treated after the 9/11 terrorist attack and the restrictions that were suggested. We learnt so much during this excursion.
