From the MGC Parents' Association

Community is critical to our overall wellbeing and being part of strong community provides a sense of belonging and social connectedness. Our goal is to focus on building social connections within our school community and supporting that meaningful relationship between home and school.

About the MGC Parents’ Association

The Parents’ Association plays an important role at MGC. Being involved through our monthly meetings is a great avenue to establish friendships with other parents, to have some input into PA decision-making, to ask questions, to volunteer for fundraising and social activities and to hear our principal give reports on ‘what’s happening’ around the school.

The activities we have been involved in over the last few year have included a ‘welcome back’ morning tea for staff, providing refreshments at the Year 7 Family Picnic, catering for the Pedal Powered Moonlight Cinema hosted by the MGC Sustainability Collective, the International Women’s Day Dinner, Trivia Night, catering for the ‘Rewrite the Future’ event as part of the Climate Change Expo, the Major School Raffle, Fathers’ Day Breakfast held in the wonderfully situated new Gillard Centre, ‘Keys Please’, an informative session conducted by VicRoads for Learner Drivers and their parents and most recently the Coffee mornings and social nights reconnecting the MGC community.

Our fundraising events enabled us to raise significant funds in past years. This money is allocated via the PA Funding Sub-Committee to departments and student bodies via grants program benefiting all students within the school. Recent grants have contributed to: digital cameras; AFL jumpers; graphic novels; the leadership program; blood pressure and pulse cuffs for PE classes; BBQ’s, the STEAM room, sponsorship of representation at a Youth Parliament event; and a large contribution to the creation of the Green Screen Room in the library.

Thank you to the valuable members of the PA, to those that have come along to our Functions, coffee mornings, and to those who have donated, bought tickets or supported us in other ways. The Parents’ Association is a group of like-minded and eager parents who organise events that connect the community members with each other and the school. We are always on the lookout for extra opinions, ideas, and suggestions - contact us via email or come along to the monthly meetings held in the MGC staff room to contribute. Keep an eye on this page and on the school’s social media pages for upcoming events and meetings.
