Grade 1 and 2

Term 2

Literacy

Grade 1 and 2 have been busy learning about poetry! We have been reading rhyming books, singing songs and and playing clapping games to discuss syllables. We have learned to write a few poems this week, such as: a haiku, cinquain, ABC, feelings and sensory poems. Have a look at some of our work!

Numeracy

We have continued with consolidating addition and subtraction, but have been focussing specifically on measurement this week, grade 1s have been busy measuring the length on height of different things using different objects; we began by choosing a unit to measure with: icy pole sticks, MAB blocks, unifix and teddies. Then we estimated how many it would take, playing close attention to the fact that what we use to measure must all be the same size and touching for it to be a correct measurement. We then measured correctly and saw how well we did with our estimations.

Inquiry

The Grade 2's have had so much fun with our inquiry unit Living Things.

2D recently helped Andersons Creek Landcare with clearing some weeds and planting some native grasses in their place. We look forward to seeing their great work in the years to come.

Grade 2D and 2B were fortunate to have Templestowe College science students give them a lesson on Living and Non Living Things. They had lots of fun identifying the difference between living and non living, scooping out some very small living things from some river water, and then having a look at their finds under a microscope.
