Literacy

This week we have concentrated on reading with fluency. During shared reading, we have practised decoding new words and then reread the page to make it sound smooth, like we are talking. The books we read at school are usually pitched a little bit higher than what the students are bringing home, to stretch them in their learning.

We have also learnt some new digraphs this term (two letters that make one sound):

Look at the book - oo, oo, oo

Two new boots - oo, oo, oo

Mother and father on a ladder - er, er, er

See the bee - ee, ee, ee

Ring on a finger - ng, ng, ng

Be a star - ar, ar, ar

Snails play - ay, ay, ay

During Writer's Workshop, we have enjoyed free choice writing. We have practised sitting our letters on the line when handwriting and completed a handwriting task about our five senses. During Inquiry, we read a book about what gives our bodies energy and how our bodies use energy. Students then had a go at writing about what they had learnt.

Numeracy

In Maths, students have been introduced to the concept of time. We have discussed the days of the week, months of the year, morning and afternoon. We also worked together to create a timeline for a whole day and placed the events in order that they happen. For example, wake up, get dressed, go to school, etc. We have also talked about yesterday, today and tomorrow and recorded events we might do on each of these days.

It has been another busy week! I hope everyone has a great long weekend.
