Staffing News- Mrs Jenny Lang
Albany Rise Primary School has had the joy of Mrs Jenny Lang as a teacher of classes and Specialist sessions, since 2004. Jenny has been a teacher for many years more than that! This year, Jenny will be retiring from teaching to enjoy more time spent with her family. We have been so fortunate to have Jenny at ARPS contributing to the community and student learning for so many years! We wish her all the best as she leads up to retirement at the end of Term 2. I hope all community members will join our school at Jenny’s final assembly at 1.30pm on the last day of term 2: 23rd June.
Education Week Open Day, Book Fair and eSmart learning
What a fantastic week it has been of learning and community engagement!
Our families have enjoyed the opportunity of visiting classrooms, taking part in the book fair, supporting our choir performances at school and at local venues, viewing our art displays, and so much more!
We are so proud of all the efforts of our students, staff and community to celebrate the wonderful educational opportunities that have been provided at ARPS this week, and every week!
Biggest Morning Tea!
It was wonderful to see staff, parents and visitors at our Biggest Morning tea this morning in the function room. Micheala, and Natasha and the staff team put on a great spread and the fundraising efforts are still continuing this afternoon.
We hope to raise a great sum of money for the Cancer Council research projects with our Community ‘Biggest Morning Tea’ efforts.
Choir
Our fabulous choir performed beautifully for our parents, students and visitors earlier today. They also sang wonderful at Waverley gardens and M-City on Tuesday this week. We are looking forward to seeing them all performing again at this evening’s open night! Don’t forget to come along for a sausage drink at our BBQ which will be run by KidsCo before and afterschool care this evening!
Art Display
I encourage families to come and view the amazing Art work on Display in the Hall this afternoon. There is work from students in all year levels- I know the students will be excited to be able to see their efforts on display and share it with their families.
CROSS COUNTRY
This week a large group of students who were successful at the Cross country Event last Friday, took part in the District Cross country running event at Jells Park.
A very special thanks to several parents who came to help out for the morning last Friday, including those parents who do not actually have any students in year 3-6; we are very grateful for this level of support! The winning House for the ARPS Cross Country event for 2023 was Bradman House (Green). Congratulations to the winners for each age level, and to all students who took part and did their best at the event. We are excited to have 3 students who were successful in reaching the divisional competition, to be held next Wednesday, 31st May.

Facilities News: Trees
This week our grounds have been tidied and pruned to ensure the safety of people and buildings. Tree works included:
- Pruning of flowering trees outside the KidsCo/Hall area (near staff car park)
- Removal or growing gum tree close to water tank near the oval
- Removal of slanted paperbark tree near oval/Zita street
- Removal of branches/saplings in play based learning space (behind the arc)
- Spreading of Mulch in various areas around the school
The garden space is looking GREAT, especially with all the efforts from the Garden Club 😊
Facilities News: Toilets
School Council members were the first to view the finalised plans for our new toilet upgrades, which we hope will commence very soon.
Here are some ‘sneak peeks’ of some of the designs for student and staff facilities…
A timeline and process for the works to be undertaken will also be available soon!
Attendance
I am occasionally asked, “Having a day off every now can’t hurt can it?” Well actually …it definitely can! Not only should your child/ren attend school each day, but it is just as important to BE ON TIME! I remind you that school commences and lessons start promptly on the 9.00am (and occasionally before, as the children, and staff, are raring to get started with the day’s learning). You will all know we ring the bell at 8:55 with staff opening their rooms from 8.52 (music) to allow students to get a little organised before school.
It is very disruptive for the other students and your child if they come into their class while the initial day’s instructions are being given. This is the most vital time to set things up, give any important information about the day ahead or changes to what students may have thought was happening that day. If your child is late they will miss this and be behind at times throughout day.
I wish to refer you to the Department of Education and Training website where there is much information giving reasons why your child should be at school every day. This also applies to being on time to school every day as this has the same effect on your child’s learning as time away from school. Of course, if your child is unwell please keep them at home and log this absence on Compass as soon as practical.
