Science - Survival Adaptations  

Year 5 will be focusing on Survival Adaptations in plants and animals. Students will be considering weather, climatic conditions, predators and more, observing the corresponding adaptations made – such as spikes or camouflage. Students have begun investigating plant anatomy and adaptations, using magnifying glasses and microscopes and interactive microscope lenses for their iPads. 

Math

From Hayley, Year 5 teacher

We are currently learning efficient multiplication and division strategies to solve a range of number sentences and worded problems. Lessons include a warm up, before the main task gets started. These could look like a dice game, number talk, using mini whiteboards to draw diagrams etc. The aim is to encourage students to engage in critical thinking skills, make connections and improve fluency.
