Year 4 News

Active Learners; Move, Make and Motivate!

Multiplication Snap!

Need: Playing cards or 10-sided dice.

Halve the deck or have one dice each. Flip a card over or roll a dice each. Whoever states the answer first wins the cards or gains a point. First one to win the deck, wins! Or the first one to 10/20 points wins!

Changing it up: Add 5 to the answer. Give the inverse, eg if you flipped a 3 and 5...the player would have to say "15 divided by 5 equals 3".

Multiplication Squares

Need: Multiplication grid (like below). However, you could make your own. 1-10 dice.

Roll the dice to make a number sentence, calculate the product and then you can draw a line between two dots on the grid with that answer. The player to complete the square wins the square.

Each player can be a different colour.

2D Creation

Make a person using 2D shapes. Can you make a picture using all the 2D shapes you know. Colour code it!

If you have magnetic tiles - make it 3D!

10 second walk

Challenge your family to a walk! You need to decide on a start and end point for your walk. With the timer hidden see if they can get from the start to the finish in exactly 10 seconds. Who can get closest?

How far away from 10 seconds were you?

Share them out

Grab the frozen peas and share them.

If we have 4 people in our family and 46 peas....how many peas will we each get?

It doesn't have to be peas...teddies, pencils, chickpeas.

Make a creation using lego; How many bricks did you use? What fraction of red bricks did you use?

Numbers Game!

This game is taken from the show 8 out of 10 cats does countdown. Choose, for example, 3 small and 3 large numbers. A total will be given to you as a target. Set a timer to get exactly the total or the closest to it.

Challenge the whole family.

News Report

Make a news report of the week that was. Crossing live to the year 4 room.

Motivate Yourself

At the end of the day ask each person in your family...what went well today?

We want to also say a HUGE THANK YOU to our two lovely Education Support staff who work within our team, Anne and Sonia. Thank you for being awesome! You are very much appreciated.

In Science. The Circle of Life Food chains & Ecosystems

Year 4s will be developing an understanding about the importance of ecosystems for existence and the dependency of animal species on each other as a part of the food chain. Students will also learn about different environmental factors that affect the life cycles of plant and animal species.

Students have begun by investigating plant anatomy and setting up celery/Bok choy food dye experiments – to study water flow through a plant’s xylem, as well as discussing flower anatomy and pollination. They will also be designing their own hybrid plants that would be an application of their learning and understanding.
