Sead with Mark McBride

From Amanda, Year 3 teacher

Education Week

In celebration of Education Week, Year 3 participated in not only one Writing Festival excursion this term, but two!

On Thursday of Week 2, students attended the Melbourne Writer’s Festival held at the State Library. Famous authors spoke to the students about writing and their work. Many schools participated in the event. One NMPS student, Sead in 3A, was clever and lucky enough to answer a question to win a bespoke airbrush dragon painting by Marc McBride.

The following week, students walked up to the North Melbourne Library for an Author Talk by Cristy Burne who demonstrated how her love of and expertise in Science has been incorporated into her writing. Our fully engaged students came away with multiple pointers to use when writing in their Writer’s Workshop. Make sure to check in with your child at home to see what their favourite piece of advice was from ‘Crusty Bum’ (Cristy’s nickname she told the students to use).

Year 3 will be focusing on classification of different animal species into groups depending upon their structure and body features. These groups will broadly classified into vertebrates and invertebrates and students would be looking at each classification and the animals in detail. Students will be constructing a research report on their prior and gained knowledge on a marine animal of their choice based on sorting activities.

Students be developing a basic understanding of digestive and excretory systems.
