Message from the Principal

Mrs Bronwyn Underwood

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a wonderful celebration of mums and grandmums last Friday afternoon, as we celebrated Mothers’ Day at St Michael’s. Everyone was delighted by the assembly items presented by each class and the various artworks that were displayed around the school. The afternoon was finished off by a delicious afternoon tea in the Library. Thankyou to all staff members, students, parents and visitors who made this such a special occasion. We hope all our mums and carers enjoyed a very special day on Mothers’ Day.

Last Friday, staff and students dressed in blue to commemorate Day for Dolly. Staff and students enjoyed a sausage sizzle lunch of blue sausages and donated a gold coin for wearing mufti. A total of $222.25 was raised on the day and will be donated to the Day for Dolly Fund. This activity was initiated by St Michael’s P&F.

On Tuesday May 23, the P&F will be meeting at the Manilla Bowling Club. The AGM will be held first at 5.30, followed by the monthly meeting. After the meeting, attendees are welcome to stay for dinner at the Bowling Club, paid for by the school. We would love to see many new and familiar faces join us for both the meeting and dinner.

We recently received news that St Michael’s has been successful in the Schools Upgrade Fund.  The purpose of the fund is to provide more equitable access to resources to support schools to help keep students and staff safe and get students’ education back on track after disruptions caused by COVID 19. St Michael’s was successful in the Open Round of applications and we will use the funds to put a shade shelter over the existing playground equipment and sand pit. Inline with the conditions of the grant, this project will be complete by the end of the school year. We look forward to this fabulous upgrade to our playground facilities.  The school will be supplementing the grant to acquire a high quality product.

A huge thankyou to families and staff for working together this week as we navigated the COVID outbreak at St Michael’s. The commitment of everyone has made such a difference and we will hopefully return to normal on Monday. Please continue to monitor your child’s health and take precautions, particularly with cold and flu symptoms.

Congratulations to the students who competed in the Diocesan Cross Country at Barraba today.

Enjoy a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing you Tuesday Night at the Bowling Club for the P&F Meeting commencing at 5.30.
