7K is a great group of students who are generally considerate and kind to each other. They can have fun together and they are capable of being enthusiastic and focussed with their learning.
Maths
In Maths students have been learning about social media data and how it is collected and reported. Students learnt how to use Canva to make their own Infograph presenting class data as well as secondary data. We learnt that more men than women use their phone on the toilet, and that in 7K Snapchat, gaming and Tik Tok are the most used social media platforms.
English
In English 7K have been reading interesting picture books written by Margaret Wild. They have been learning how to respond to their reading using different prompts such as making connections, asking questions and analysing her conclusions. We have agreed that her endings are all versions of ‘cliff hangers’ and make you ask more questions than provide answers.
Science
In Science 7K have been studying Space. They have learnt the relationship between the Earth, Sun and Moon to create day, night and seasons. They were able to have a delicious opportunity to model the phases of the moon using Oreo cookies. Yum!
Humanities
In Humanities, 7K has been focusing on the lives and customs of the Ancient Egyptians. Over the school holidays, some students attempted to mummify tomatoes to discover more about the process that the Ancient Egyptians used.
Recently, the students have studied the pyramids and their purpose as tombs. Students created paper versions of the pyramids, complete with secret tunnels and different chambers to hold different artifacts that the people would use in their afterlife.
Drama
Once a week, on Thursdays, 7K make their way over to D3 on Wallace Street for a double of Drama. Throughout the Semester so far, they have come up with creative and sometimes quite avant garde performance ideas to demonstrate their understanding of the theatre style of Mime. They then created posters analysing films, movies or TV shows of their choice for features of Melodrama.
To finish off the Semester, students are getting a chance to work with a script written by an Indigenous playwright. So far, they have analysed the prologue and the first scene, and are getting stuck into character work and the story that is beginning to unfold.
Students have shown a knack for working with playscripts, and have made considerable progress as far as their confidence levels and their comfort in performing in front of the class.
