Grade 2 Students

Celebrating our terrific Twos!

Literacy

In Weeks 4 and 5, we were learning to identify the main idea in a range of texts, the details that support them and how these are important skills in helping us to better understand what a text is about. Next week, we will be moving into making and adjusting predictions about fiction texts.

We have enjoyed writing our information texts and have learned to share our facts as a brochure. We learnt to publish these on the iPads using Pages and explored the functions available for changing the presentation of our information text. Next week, we will begin investigating autobiographies and create one about ourselves.

Maths:

We have built on our understanding of basic number facts and doubles in both addition and subtraction, by exploring near doubles. Students have also explored analogue and digital time, and learning how to tell the time depending on the position of both the minute and hour hand, to the quarter hour. We have also loved having a problem solving warm up before each maths session and enjoyed challenging ourselves with the number talks.

Respectful Relationships and Wellbeing:

In our Respectful Relationships and Wellbeing lessons, we have identified some situations that may cause us to feel angry and discussed positive coping strategies to manage this feeling. This encourages us to reflect on emotional resonses, recognising whether they are helpful or hurtful, take responsibility for our actions, show awareness of feelings and the needs of others and practise techniques to deal with our feelings.
