P.E.

This week in P.E.

This week in P.E the focus was on Health and Nutrition.

Foundation, Grade 1 and Grade 2

This week we started off with a ‘tune in’ activity from the Inner Assembly wellbeing and wellness pack. Students loved being able to listen to a song and draw how the song made them feel. It was so interesting to see how different all the drawings were, even though we were listening to the same song. We then focused on nutrition and healthy eating. All classrooms now have the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating displayed and we had some great discussions around what we should be eating and the portion sizes for each category. Students were so excited to cut out Coles catalogues to create healthy lunch boxes. Foundation students made a healthy dinner plate using the information they learnt from the Australian Healthy Eating Guide.

Grade 3/4

We completed another fantastic Inner Assembly wellbeing activity. The Grade 3/4 classes were able to focus on their own individual values, what is important to them and why. They used the three star system to rate their values in order of importance. We had a look at how advertising in the media can affect our food choices and mostly our unhealthy food choices. We focused on portion sizes and all the different food groups like carbohydrates, proteins, dairy, vegetables, fruits, oils and sometimes foods.

Grade 5&6

After the 5/6 students rated their values review, we looked in depth at how advertising in the media can affect our choices. We had some interesting and in-depth conversations around cigarettes, vaping, chroming, illicit substances, alcohol, eating and unhealthy choices. We will continue some of these discussions in the coming weeks in order to educate our students about making healthy choices in the future.
