Grade 5/6 Students

Celebrating our fantastic Fives and sensational Sixes!

Reading:

Literacy Circles have commenced, and the students have been enthralled in their novels this term. It has been wonderful to witness the passion, enthusiasm and dedication they are applying to each task. The meetings have generated many dynamic discussions, insightful predictions and connections with plot and characters.

Writing:

In writing, students are learning how to structure a historical recount, while exploring subject-specific vocabulary and sentence structures. This has tied in with our Integrated unit and homework task, where they have been researching and collecting information on an Australian Prime Minister. The students will continue to follow ‘The Stages of Writing’ to produce a historical recount on their Prime Minister, describing the significant events in chronological order.

Mathematics:

In maths, students are currently learning about multiplication and exploring different methods for solving multiplication problems. The students have spent time investigating numbers and factors, while developing the associated meaning to definitions of prime, composite, triangular and squared numbers.

Respectful Relationships and Wellbeing:

We have been understanding and identifying a variety of positive coping strategies in our Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships unit. The discussions and activities are centred at allowing students to identify positive ways to help them feel better, or persist when things get tough. This can assist students to reduce negative coping strategies and promote positive self-talk.
