Calculators in 2022

All students studying Mathematics at Wantirna College will require their own calculator – either a scientific or a CAS calculator.

Calculators are important tools to help students explore mathematical ideas, patterns and relationships. Whilst we do have an emphasis on doing things by hand when relevant, a calculator is a great support to their learning. Being able to use technology in Mathematics is also a compulsory outcome at VCE Mathematics.

Subjects requiring a scientific calculator only:

Year 7 Mathematics
Year 8 Mathematics
Year 9 Core Mathematics
Year 9 Essential Mathematics
Year 10 Essential Mathematics
VCE Foundation Mathematics
VCAL Numeracy

We have two preferred models for scientific calculators:

· CASIO FX-82AU Plus II

· TI30XB Multiview Scientific Calculator

Subjects requiring a CAS calculator:

Year 10 Pathway to Methods
Year 10 Pathway to General
VCE General and Further Mathematics
VCE Mathematical Methods
VCE Specialist Mathematics

We require all students in these subjects to have a TI-Inspire CX II CAS Calculator.

Please do not purchase a CASIO Classpad for your student as the teachers at Wantirna will not be able to help your student work with this calculator.

We also strongly recommend students in these subjects to retain their scientific calculator used from Years 7 to 9.

Purchasing a calculator

Parents are welcome to source their own calculators prior to the start of the 2022 school year.

Alternatively, you are able to purchase through Haines School Calculators, a local supplier.

Haines have set up a portal whereby you can order electronically through them and the calculator will be delivered to school.

Select your required calculator bundle
Enter your student’s details and pay via credit card

If you place your order by 26/11/2021, your order will be ready for collection from the College after 3/12/2021.

If you place your order by 28/01/2022, your order will be ready for collection from the College after 4/02/2022.
