Principal's message

Dear MGSC Community

The school yard is buzzing with the sound of our students catching up with their friends.  I have gone from walking into the empty school yard and hearing nothing but the birds outside my office, to hearing the sound of musical instruments coming from the music practice rooms in the morning.

It is hard to believe that we are almost back to normal operations in schools. Now that the masks are no longer required outside, the students can actually see each others' expressions for a change. For staff, there is such a level of positivity that it is tangible.  And, I guess, in a way it is. We are all onsite, we are all together, and we have made it through six lockdowns over two years.

Schools received word last week that we can resume class excursions from walks to the local beach to Outdoor Education program activities . The exams are going well and the year 12s appear to be pacing themselves. The last exams will be on 17 November.

Our teachers

On Friday 29 October was World Teachers' Day which celebrated the #BrightFuture in teaching. Our staff show this everyday in their dedication to their profession and commitment to their students. Days away from Halloween some teachers dressed up in some fun costumes.

Our teachers are now working towards the end of the 2021 academic program and our students will be finishing off their final projects in the next few weeks. A reminder that there will be a teacher assessment and reporting day on Friday 19 November which is a pupil free day. Headstart will commence on Monday 22 November and all of our students roll up to their 2022 classes.  How quickly time flies!

Grounds and gardens

A special thank you to Tammy Schindler-Hands (gardener) and Gerry Van Den Berg (maintenance) for their care and attention to our grounds, gardens and trees.  The campus is a haven for bird life. A variety of birds have built nests and are hatching eggs this spring.

A special acknowledgement to Gerry who after the recent big storm quickly cleaned up fallen branches and made trees safe with a chainsaw and hedge pruner to ensure classes and exams were not disturbed on a busy Friday morning.

I hope you are all enjoying the company of family and friends and enjoying your new found freedom.

Kind regards

Linda Brown
