FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

FIRST EUCHARIST - YEAR 4/5 STUDENTS

The word 'communion' means to be united with; Catholics believe that in Holy Communion we are united in a special way with Jesus Christ.

At his last supper, Jesus said of the bread that he shared among his followers, "Take and eat, this is my body."  When we receive Holy Communion, Catholics believe that in a mysterious way we are sharing in the body and blood of Christ.

Holy Communion and the whole celebration is also known as Eucharist, from a Greek word meaning thanksgiving. First Eucharist is a special occasion - a further step in becoming one with Christ and united with the People of God.

As a school we would like to congratulate the students in Years 4 and 5 who received the Sacrament of the Eucharist over the last two weeks. The students were excellent representatives for our school at all of the celebrations and they were both prayerful and reverent.

Student reflection of Eucharist:

Eucharist made me feel blessed and very special and closer to God. I went to church with my family and received a special sash. I had an important reading to do and I felt very blessed to be able to do this.  It was exciting to receive the holy bread. Max Year 4

It was a very special day for all of us, we all felt very proud and it was nice to do our Eucharist in a little group. We were all very nervous but we were also excited and now we have received our First Communion. Sophie, Gemma, Heidi & Ruby Year 4.

Last week I did my first eucharist,

We started off with the father talking to us about how we are giving our life to God and stories from the bible. We each had our lines, I read the liturgy of the word. I was really nervous after that because I was about to make my First Eucharist. I had waited so long and I was really excited for it. But I was also really nervous to see what it would taste like and thought maybe I would do something wrong.

One thing you should know before you get your First Eucharist is that you shouldn’t be nervous because in the end it doesn't matter if you do something wrong or if you make a mistake, what really matters is that you are giving your life to God and that he is always with you.  Isla C Year 5

Thank you to Fr John Paul for supporting our school community and especially our Sacrament candidates through another turbulent year of organised chaos. We did it!!

TOY DRIVE

Southern Peninsula Community Fund warmly welcomes donations of gifts for children for Christmas.  Our lady of Fatima would like to support this fabulous organisation who do such important community work out of our very own grounds here at the Parish.

We have created the following guidelines to help you make the best gift choices.

  1. All donations must be brand new, we regret that we can not accept second hand goods.
  2. Please do not wrap your gift. We need to see the gift to decide where it will be best distributed.
  3. Volunteers will wrap the gift once we know who will receive it. Donations of wrapping paper is also most welcome.
  4. Please bring your gift to school and place it in the office foyer under our Christmas wreath and display.

Donations close on Friday 3rd December. Thank you in advance for your generous gifts to the children in need in your community this Christmas.

Regards, Diane Falconer
