Mad About Science

Mad About Science visited OLA and provided hands on workshops by qualified presenters with backgrounds in either science and/or teaching. The children enjoyed the interactive sessions and had the opportunity to move to tables set up with experiments a number of times during the session.   This allowed students to develop critical and creative thinking skills, asking questions, making predictions and drawing conclusions using scientific methods.

Making the wizz fizz was fun, we smashed up all of the ingredients and made a chemical. – Eden

I enjoyed mixing the chemicals to make a chemical reaction. It fizzed and exploded! – Noah W

I learnt that vinegar and baking soda make a fast chemical reaction but if you add dish washing liquid, it slows the reaction down. - Charlotte

I enjoyed making the sherbet and crushing the pieces and we got to eat it when we got home. – Brigitte

I found it cool when we mixed water, sugar and yeast. The reaction made the balloon blow up! - Willow

Grade 4 Camp Experience Evening

Last Thursday all Grade 4 students participated in a Camp Experience evening in Brigid Hall.  The aim of this event was to familiarise students with the Camp Education Program that they will be participating in during Grade Five. Students were provided with dinner, and listened to a camp briefing on how enjoyable the school based camping experience will be. They also had some time to ask any questions. Students were divided into ‘duty’ groups and assisted with table setting, drinks pouring, cleaning up and supper duties just like they will do on camp. We were successful in securing Supreme Incursions to lead a 90 minute team building session on the night, where students participated in a variety of team building activities. It was a great night of collaboration, teamwork and fun. It was well attended and hopefully allayed any of the anxieties that children may have about camp for 2022.
