Year 9 Japanese

Mrs Susie Allan

Annually school students participate in Sports Day known as ‘undoukai’. The College borrowed specific equipment from JATNET (Japanese Teachers Network of Tasmania) to have a try. Students practiced vocabulary such as colours, numbers and team spirit related phrases while participating in some of the activities such as ‘tamaire’ (Bird’s Nest Ball Toss), ‘deka pantsu’ (Big Pants Race) and ‘oodama’ (Big Ball Race). The goal is to build team skills and team spirit. The feedback from the Year 9 students included:

Aaron: a good experience

Alex: It was good to experience what a school event in Japan might be like

Coen: 10/10 would play again

Isaac: Able to give us a deeper connect to Japanese students and their school culture

Oscar: Good to connect to this part of Japanese culture

Tyson: it was good to experience first-hand instead of hearing about in a classroom.

Design & Technology – Food Product, Design & Development

Mrs Julia Denniss

Recently students in Design & Technology – Food Product, Design & Development have been working on creating new flavours for meringues. Boys have had to learn new skills in order to make and present their meringues - successfully separating egg whites and using a piping bag. The results were very pleasing!
