Year Four News

Written by the Year Four Team

Hi everyone,

Its been a jam packed two weeks in Year Four! We’ve had excursions, walking trips along with finishing all of our work for the Christmas break. We have now recorded our Christmas Carols and are extremely excited for parents to see all of our hard work and practice.

With this being our last newsletter for 202I, the year 4 team would like to extend a huge congratulations to all students and families for the dedication you have shown throughout the year. It has been particularly challenging, however we look forward to seeing all students grow as they move onto grade 5 next year.

Inquiry

Recently we have finished the learning on our UOI5- Matter exists in different states using heat as a catalyst. We were lucky enough to conduct a number of fun experiments that involved the scientific method, different types of substances and how the state of a substance can change through temperature. This was an exciting unit that students were able to reflect on utilising a swat analysis.

Numeracy

We have continued to work hard in our Numeracy. Finishing off our work within the unit of Probability and Chance . The students have been working on problem solving strategies, taking ownership over their learning and setting new goals for themselves. Students have continued publishing their numeracy goals and presenting them to the class with their devices through a Kahoot quiz, power point presentations or a poster.

When exploring the concept of chance, the students have been playing different chance experiment games and investigating the chances and probability of events occurring.

In our last week of term, students have been working on a mini project where they designed their own game titled the probability fair.

Oval Excursion

Last Friday we went for a walk down to the local Saltwater oval where we were got to participate in some group activities. Thank you to all students for displaying such principled behaviour. We hope it was a fun day!

"On December 3rd the grade 4’s went on a walk to the Saltwater oval. We played games and had ice- cream. We formed two groups to then participate in playing some of the games that the teacher organised for us. They were we tunnel ball, dodge ball ,tag end then we did a kick off with our group to see who could get the biggest distance. Some people were able to kick the ball halfway down the field. Overall we had fun and it was really great to get out of school. Thank you to the year 4 teachers for organising such a fun day".

Zoo Excursion

We were lucky enough to finally attend our Zoo excursion. It was incredible experience where the students got to engage in a range of fun activities.

"At 9:30 we went on a bus to get to the zoo where we saw Reptiles , elephants , gorillas  ,  monkeys and a butterfly house. The year fours had so much. My favourite thing I saw was 2 giant tortoises, they were over 100 years old. We had a Zoo keeper explain to us how we need to think of and invent ways that we can create a sustainable energy for the future of the zoo. Thank you to the year 4 teachers for organising such a fun day"!
