Dear Prep Families,
The Prep team are super proud of our students and their remarkable communication skills during the three-way-conferences that took place last week. They presented their work with pride as they showcased their work and discussed the learning goals they have achieved over the semester.
Last week, students took part in the Prep-2 mini-Olympics where the students were provided with the opportunity to participate in different sporting activities including, ‘The Egg and Spoon Race, Three-Legged Race, hurdles, javelin, soccer and many more activities.
The students exhibited teamwork, resilience and excitement when cheering on their classmates. It was an eventful day. The students enjoyed being outdoors, discovering new sports and engaging with their peers. We were super proud of their effort and commitment throughout the day!
In Reading, students have been exploring cause and effect within different non-fiction texts, this is where we discuss the cause being the reason why something happened and the effect is what happened because of the cause. Students have been exploring a range of non-fiction text where they deepened their understanding and verbally shared different cause and effect situations that occurred within texts read. An example of this was when we read the text, ‘Garden Helpers’ the cause was some animals could harm the plants in the vegetable garden and the effect was the plants would no longer grow and be used for vegetables.
Students have been provided with opportunities to read a range of non-fiction text to discuss the features of the text including a contents page, glossary, labels, headings and real-life images. The students have furthered their understanding and began to discuss the purpose of the features within non-fiction texts. These opportunities are provided to enhance their understanding and comprehension of the text.
In Mathematics, students have been reflective as they exhibited their knowledge on concepts learnt over the term including addition, subtraction, money and data. Students have shown enthusiasm when collecting data about their peers and have been provided with opportunities to display their data in pictographs. They were reflective when they were provided with opportunities to order numbers in a sequence from smallest to largest using place value.
In Writing, students have begun to explore the purpose and structure of writing a personal letter. They have shown their eagerness when letter writing and have displayed their knowledge on how to structure a letter correctly ensuring to include a greeting, introduction, questions and then signing off on the letter.
We were very excited to write personal letters to our buddies, teachers and of course, Santa! The students were exposed to a range of mentor texts to develop their knowledge on writing letters including the texts, ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’, ‘Dear Mr. Blueberry’ and ‘Can I be Your Dog?’ The students made links to writing a personal letter and how it can be purposeful in many different ways.
Over the last couple of weeks students have been rehearsing their Christmas carols and dance routines. They are so excited to perform their carols and dance as a class next week. The students can’t wait for you all to see our carols once it has been recorded!
On behalf of the Prep team, we would like to thank you for supporting us during this challenging year, we wish all our families a restful holiday and look forward to seeing you all back next year on Tuesday 1 February.
