As school holidays and Christmas approaches, we collectively share in this wonderful period when all of the amazing work that students have achieved comes to a head. This is particularly notable at events such as the Year Six Graduation.
Student MCs, presenters and performers within the ceremony lead the proceedings with style and aplomb. MCs Vanessa Mocko and Lareb Muhammad Jurial, with the support of Keanu Daniela-Stewart, confidently guided our onsite and remote audiences throughout proceedings whilst Year 6 classroom representatives Thasneem Mohammed Asif, Jahzarriah Williams, Sukhraj Grewal, Molly Gill and Lana Van Der Westhuizen shared their perspective on behalf of their classes with some truly characteristic and touching reflections.
Although their delivery was effortless and warm, the ceremony itself represented weeks if not months of writing, editing rehearsal and a gruelling process of review that was akin to the experience of a large professional ceremonial program. The students approached this process with dedication and commitment; working hard as they strived to improve without so much as a complaint. I truly believe that the results spoke for themselves, and I am extremely honoured to have shared in this experience with them - those involved should be truly proud.
Extra special thanks go to Evelyn Martchenko, Makayla Reid, Brooklyn Hanita-Paki and Chai Dennis for rising to the occasion of representing the Drama and Bungaree Drama Extension programs by turning in an incredibly well-crafted and funny performance during the Drama showcase segment within the ceremony. Likewise, this incredible quartet tirelessly tackled a somewhat gruelling rehearsal schedule as they pushed themselves to create performances worthy of a professional stage. Congratulations go to Drama Scholarship recipient Chai Dennis for his award.
In reference to Bungaree Drama Extension, I take great pleasure in presenting this wonderful performance by Year Four student Sienna Sargent, a Bungaree Drama member. Sienna was this year cast as Princess Jasmine in this year’s school production of Aladdin. But due to the postponement of the show till next year, and because Sienna and her family will be moving to Queensland before Christmas, she won’t be able to play the role that she was no doubt going to excel at. Sienna has a drive and spirit far beyond her years and was leading the Aladdin ensemble by example through her impressive preparation and conduct within rehearsal. However, no amount of hard work ever goes to waste and Sienna will undoubtedly have many opportunities to shine in sunny Queensland. We truly wish the beautiful Sargent family all the very best in the future and look forward to hearing of their every success from afar.
Now please enjoy this performance of the poem, How to Make Friends With a Snail By William the Snail Whisperer McGee. (Thanks to Amitoj, Josh and Arian for their hilarious supporting performances.)
