Remembrance Day

On the 11th of November our school community spent time reflecting upon the service and sacrifice that men and woman have made over time for our country. Our brilliant school captains put together a digital presentation that all classes viewed and discussed and it was really heartening to notice the empathy and respect that all students showed during these discussions.

Due to our staggered playbreaks, at 11am the senior students were outside at play whilst the junior students were inside in class. We wanted to honour the significance of 11am and so at 10.59am the student leaders began a presentation over the loud speakers, followed by the playing of The Last Post, a minute's silence and The Rouse. We were humbled and overwhelmed to see every single student stop and pay their respects whether they were in the middle of a class discussion or basketball game. A silence fell over the yard that is usually filled with all the noise and excitement of playtime and our entire community took a moment to reflect upon the moment. Lest We Forget.

Student screen time

We have noticed lately that there are some students coming to school after spending their morning playing on screens, specifically online gaming like Fortnight. We know that students really enjoy aspects of online gaming but when students spend the time before school playing these games they often come to school very heightened and not ready to learn. We would ask parents to strongly consider putting arrangements in place that limit online gaming, social media or other screen time before school.

Illness at school (repost)

Under new DET protocols, any student who is sent home with COVID compatible symptoms will be unable to return to school until they have a COVID test and provide the school with evidence of a Negative result andthey feel well. If your child has an ongoing condition that may mimic these symptoms (such as Hayfever) please provide written advice from a medical professional to that effect. Thank you for your understanding in this regard.

Negative Covid test results can be emailed to kalinda.ps@education.vic.gov.au. (Whereas a positive result should be communicated with us as soon as possible, via the details shared on Mr. McClare's page.

Some children may feel some apprehension or uncertainty about having a Covid-19 test (although some may be old hand!) The team at Deakin University (including Kalinda parent Megan) have put together this fantastic video to share with children. The video stars one of our own - Lucien in 5/6D! Great job Lucien, your support for this project is a wonderful service to our community.

Watch “Be brave, Get tested - how a COVID test is done on children” here.
