Junior Class - Mrs Creek

Bilby Moon by Margaret Spurling has become the model for our patterned writing this week. Our chosen sentence was from the start of the story. It states ‘One night, far away in the desert, a little bilby left her burrow for the very first time’. From this F-1 students contributed ideas to write a sentence in a similar mode. It is, ‘One breezy night, far away next to the rocks, a spotty owl swooped down from the tall tree to talk to little bilby’. Students then worked in pairs/groups to design their own sentences.  Mathematics continues with patterns, measurement, and numeral concepts. Again, thanks for all the home reading routines.

Middle Class - Miss Williams

This week the Middles have had a fun and exciting time. There were our school photos on Tuesday and we all had lovely smiles. On Wednesday we enjoyed dressing up for National Simultaneous Storytime. There were some wonderful and creative costumes, and lots of space activities. We wrote about what we would do if we were astronauts, made space helmets and did lots of space colourings. We have also been doing some acrostic poems in our writing time and have come up with some terrific ones. In reading we have had a focus book this week of When the Snake Bites the Sun but unfortunately have not had enough time to read it much this week with all that has taken place. In maths the Year 3 students are looking at how much things weigh and the Year 2s are learning about using the formal measurement units, metres and centimetres.

We have had a lot of practice for assembly this week as we ran it as a class on Thursday afternoon.

Senior Class - Miss Walker

This week we have been exploring fables in our morning reading. We have discussed that the purpose of fables is to teach us a lesson and we have explored text features used in fables such as the personification of animals. In spelling we have been working on some tricky silent letters. For writing we have been finishing off some work inspired by last week’s book Fox and have also been finishing off our unit on persuasive writing by creating a ‘vox pop’.

Division has been our main focus during maths this week.

Little Joey

This week we continue to acknowledge the significant role of the "Brown Joeys" in the establishment of St Patrick's School, and recognised Jody with a Little Joey award.  Our Little Joeys receive a certificate, sticker and a voucher/goods donated by a local business.  This week's voucher was donated by Cambrelle's.  We are very grateful for the contributions from our local businesses.

The following students were recognised this week for their reading achievements:

50 nights - David, Thar Shue, Nile, Isabella, Max
