I would like to take this opportunity to remind our College community of our expectations around mobile phone use and uniform expectations.
Mobile phones have been banned in classrooms by the Victorian Government and we support that ban. Students should not have, or use, their mobile phones in class or during recess and lunchtime. M obile phones should be locked in lockers at the start of the day (8-40am) and not used until the end of the day (3-20pm). Students who use phones will have them confiscated and further consequences will follow.
Our uniform expectations are also listed below and should be followed by students. The college blazer should always be worn as the outer garment, unless student is in sports uniform, and this should not be replaced with other items or the college shell jacket.
Information regarding jewellery and hair is also included below. Students who do not follow the college uniform expectations will be spoken to by staff, parents will be contacted in the case of continued non compliance and consequences will follow.
SJRC Guidelines for Mobile Phones
- Students are discouraged from bringing mobile phones to school.
- Students are not to use mobile phones during class or at recess and lunch. The phone must switched off and stored in the locker provided between the hours of 8.40 am and 3.20 pm on a school day.
- Under no circumstances is a mobile phone to be brought into any exams or assessment tasks.
- If your son or daughter needs to be contacted during the day, Student Services will relay a message to them.
- Students are not to contact parents/guardians to collect them from school if feeling unwell. Students are to report to Student Services, where the college will make contact with parents/guardians if deemed necessary.
- Under no circumstances will the College accept any responsibility for damage, loss or theft of mobile phones or other electronic devices.
- Any breaches of the above will result in the phone being confiscated. The phone will be stored at the front office for you to collect at the end of the day. You will be asked for your phone once, should you refuse to handover your phone you will be suspended at the end of the school day and your parents required to attend a re-entry interview with you before you can return to school.
- Any subsequent breaches will result in the student’s parents being asked to collect the phone from the Deputy Principal Student Wellbeing. If the phone is consistently used students will be asked to stay home until a parent meeting is held and a commitment to the Phone Policy is given.
