Sports Report

All the boys netball (junior, intermediate and senior) teams were quick on their feet displaying exceptional technique and tactics throughout the day and advancing to the next round. The coaches were very pleased with the effort and quality of games from all school with netball the real winner in the end. For all players, looking forward to some more training sessions in Term 3. A big thanks must go to the all the coaches (Ms Eccles, Mr Dobson, Mr Cheney and Ms Plant) for their time and effort required to coach winning sides. They are a real asset to the college and the community.

Junior Boys Netball

The boys battled all 4 seasons on Tuesday 25th May making for some tricky playing conditions at Knox. The B team showed great teamwork and consistency all day, with 3 easy wins against their opponents - to finish on top of the ladder. Coached by our Year 10 students Kate and Summer, the team had great sportsmanship by giving any position a go and a never give up attitude.

The A team performed well all day - with a draw against well-matched rivals Mount Waverley. This saw Vermont meet them again for a grand final showdown, where Vermont won by 2 points in a finger-biting overtime period. The boys kept a cool head in the final - and with some very accurate shooting by Haidyn and Mihir - and turn overs from the defensive team contributing to their win.

The boys should be very proud of their sportsmanship, commitment and effort for today's netball tournament. They played excellent games!

The Girls dominated the AFL on the 25th of May with 2 out of the 3 teams going through to the next round in Term 3. The competition was fast, furious but fair.

Junior Girls Football

Junior AFL Girls report by Amelie W & Kara T

On Tuesday the 25th of May, the junior girls from Years 7-8 competed in inter school sports girls AFL. We were very successful in our games against the other schools winning every game by at least 25 points. It was great to see everyone being committed and working in a team to play to the best of our ability. It was good seeing everyone having fun and sharing the team spirit with each other and to end up being undefeated. Thank you to all the participants and the coaches for assisting us throughout the games. A shout-out to everyone that was able to kick a goal (or more) and amazing job to everyone who participated in the junior, intermediate and senior girls AFL on Tuesday 25th May, and we are looking forward to playing again at Region. Our game scores; 58-0, 40-1, 27–1.

Thanks to the super coaches Mr. Smyth and Mr. Squire.

Intermediate Girls Football

It was a wild and windy day for football, but the intermediate girls team were equally as wild on the field notching up three out of three wins for the day. That wasn’t the only milestone – veteran Sarah M celebrated her 50th game of competitive football.

Game 1 v Glen Waverley

The stage was set, the team was warmed up, the huddle was tight, and a big “go Vermont” echoed throughout Koonung Reserve as the players took the field for their first battle of the day.

Plenty of goals all round kick started by Sunday snapping a terrific goal around the body. This opened the floodgates for Annie C, Chelsea P, Jess D, Amelie B, Ava O and Poppy F to join in the party. Final score 48-0.

Game 2 v Highvale

The bar was set high after game 1. Game 2 against Highvale was going to be a challenge. As the old saying goes “One sunny day doesn’t make a summer”. We knew the opposition would come out hard, however we were up for the challenge. Scoreboard pressure was the theme of the game. Final score 31-6.

Game 3 v Mount Waverley

The clouds opened up and the rain fell during our final match of the day. The girls continued their stellar form and were relentless from start to finish. Winning their final game 39-0 locked in the Division Champions title.

Thank you to our Co-Captains Ellie M and Evie P for leading the way on the day. Shout-out to Harshita K and Jennifer R for unexpectedly donning the boots after some late withdrawals due to injury and illness. Finally, a big thank you to our elite helpers Mackenzie E, Charley P and Isabellah W for their assistance with scoring, running messages and goal umpiring.

Credit to the entire playing team for executing their roles to perfection. Bring on the EMR finals in Term 3!

Miss Malander

Special thanks and acknowledgment to the Nunawading Football Club and the President for preparing the grounds, the change rooms and catering to fuel the 200 odd competitors on the day. We really appreciate the effort and time it takes to organise a day of football and hope to see you next year.
