Year 8 Camp

From 26 to 28 April, Year 8s attended camp at the Log Cabin Camp in Creswick, some 20mins from Ballarat. The Camp provided students with the opportunity to develop a range of skills including team-building, problem-solving and decision-making. In addition students were able to develop independent living skills, and get to know their peers and teachers away from the rigours of school.

It could be said that, given the events of 2020, the opportunity for students engage in adventurous activities such as raft building, the leap-of-faith and the giant swing, was particularly important to their growth and development as well-rounded, confident citizens.

Overall the camp was well-received, and most students and teachers alike would agree that it was some of the better camp food on offer!

Music Camp

Day 1 and 2 of Term 2 our music teachers and instrumental music students of South Oakleigh attended music camp down in gorgeous Dromana. Camp Don Bosco has newly renovated facilities perfect for rehearsal spaces for our ensembles. Our ensembles improved beyond imaginable from rehearsal to rehearsal as we prepared for Open Night held the next week where we showcased what we’d been rehearsing.

All students bonded across the year levels as we had students ranging from Year 7 through to Year 11. We still made time for some free time where the students could relax, bond and recharge their batteries, go on a beach walk where the weather was absolutely stunning for this time of year, had many participants enter our talent show where there were prizes to be won and the staff at the camp and food were exceptional and best of all, the smiles did not leave the staff or students’ faces the entire time we were on camp. An amazing time was had by all.
