Positive Education

South Oakleigh’s commitment to Positive Education has continued into Term 2, with all staff being involved in Curriculum Day training which focused on bringing Character Strengths into the classroom. Staff identified our strengths, reasons why those strengths are important to us, how we can use them at school, and finally came up with some role models for our strengths.

Collectively, as a staff our signature strengths are: Honesty, Kindness, Fairness, Love of Learning, and Curiosity.  We aim to develop these strengths over the course of the year, bringing them into our classroom and community.

Mentor Teachers will be running the same activity in Mentor Group over the coming weeks, and students will display and celebrate their own Character Strengths in their Mentor Group rooms.

All teachers will be encouraging students to explore their Character Strengths in the classroom, through their individual curriculum and feedback.

Growth Mindset: The Two Basic Mindsets That Shape Our Lives

Standord psychologist, Carol Dweck spent over two decades researching children and adults and how their mindset related to their success.

For twenty years, my research has shown that the view you adopt for yourself profoundly affects the way you lead your life. It can determine whether you become the person you want to be and whether you accomplish  the things you value - Carol Dweck
