Health and Physical Education

This semester, junior classes have been busy participating in the Mazenod Get Moving fitness task. Based on running experience, students set a goal on how far they would like to move in 12 minutes. It has been fantastic to witness students zooming around the Johnson Oval or putting in the hard yards at local sporting venues in an attempt to improve their aerobic fitness. Year 7 and 8 students are assessed on their dedication and participation in the program, not how far they jog or run. Pleasingly, students have been able to articulate the physical, social and mental health benefits of running, rather than seeing it as a punishment from their PE teacher!

We are eager to see all students return to school and are hopeful the off-site facilities utilised for lessons are safe to accommodate school groups. Excursions such as the swimming program at Year 7 are anticipated to resume upon returning to face to face learning.

Subject Selection

Students wishing to study Health and Physical Education subjects next year will have greater options available to them. The process will begin next term, with new and exciting subjects available. In Year 9 and 10, students can choose two PE electives to study, one being a Sports Science elective.

PE: Sports Science electives are designed to better prepare students for VCE PE, as well as improving their own sporting performance by understanding how the body functions during physical activity. In Year 11, students can also select Health and Human Development as a new subject. See the flyer below for more information.
