Garden Report

The garden is still looking beautiful!  The fruit trees are laden, the summer is promising an abundance of fruit and we have already harvested the first berries of the season.

Last week was spent doing a general tidy up around the sheds and throughout the garden, ready for the holidays.

The grade 1/2’s spent time discovering some of the herbs growing in the garden - basil, dill, mint, coriander, curry plant.  They looked, touched, smelt and finally tasted.  Many were pleasantly surprised - others, not so....

Happy Gardening and a safe and happy Christmas.

Summer Holidays Watering Roster

Can you help?

We are still calling for volunteers for the summer watering roster.  Thank you to the people who have already signed up.

We still have three slots to fill, so if you can possibly spare a few hours in January, please contact the office.

Kitchen Report

Wow, what a term the grade 3/4 students have had as they travelled through parts of Africa and South America tasting traditional foods from various countries.

Last week we tried culinary delights from Argentina. We made a corn pie which was really quite different to our “Aussie” pies. It had a creamy texture and was very soft in the middle and hard to cut.

We also tasted Fugazza, which when translated means “onion pizza”. This was a huge success.

As we finish of our journey this week in the last cooking session for the year we will visit Chile. We will be making traditional Chilean Vegetarian Empanadas accompanied by Chilean Rice.

The students have really enjoyed tasting traditional cuisine from other countries. It has been great to see so many student try new foods and to their surprise even find they enjoyed them.

Also attached today are the final 2 recipes from the grade 1/2 cooking sessions. The children have enjoyed their time in the kitchen learning new skills, teamwork and then tasting the wares they have made

I wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and look forward to continuing to explore new flavours and culinary delights in 2020.

I would also like to thank the many volunteers who have supported both Kath and myself in the kitchen, garden and Café throughout the year, without your continued support we would not be able to offer such a rich program.

Once again thank you.
