Junior School Learning

Final 2 weeks!

We’re in the final two weeks of the year, but it’s still all systems go in the Junior School!

Learning Expo

Wednesday 11th December

Students are busily finalising work from all areas of the curriculum to share with parents/loved ones at our final Learning Expo this Wednesday  at 2:30pm. Students will share literacy and numeracy work with guests as well as demonstrate their inquiry learning from the last 10 weeks.

Excursion

On Monday 16th December the Junior School Inquiry unit of ‘The world we live in’ will wrap up. Over the last 10 weeks students have been focusing on significant locations at a local, national and international level. Our excursion will focus on significant locations around Geelong. Students will stand at the highest point in Geelong and take in the sights. They will complete a search for landmarks and check these off a list provided when found.

One of the main Geelong landmarks they will locate is GMHBA Stadium. After our first stop, students will travel to GMHBA Stadium and participate in a ‘behind the scenes’ look at the venue. Students will spend time on the ground, visit the coaches box, players rooms and hear about how this venue is used by a wide range of events.

After leaving GMHBA Stadium, students will visit the Geelong waterfront. We will see many landmarks and will finish our day with a hot lunch (provided).

Please make sure you have returned your permission slip and payment by Wednesday 11th December.

Student Reflections

We asked some of our students about their favourite experience from 2019. Here are their responses:

Prep Fletcher:

Luke: I liked swimming lessons because we got to swim with our friends.

Lenn: I remember when we first all met each other at the start of the year because I was nervous but I made some good friends.  I also liked it when we came to school in olden day clothes.

Dustin: I liked it when we got the dirt, grass and sky books because I could write better!  I also liked performing the Boys from the Bush dance.

Prep/1 Lindsay:

Elijah: Growing healthy food to cook delicious meals in the kitchen. I really like the taste testing!

Ivy: Learning to read really tricky words. I couldn't even read when I started school!

Miller: Making stuff to show new information we have learnt.

1/2 Kearney:

Penny: My highlight was making new friends and being able to play with different people.

Tom: My highlight was going to Sovereign Hill with my class. I liked when the horse carriage was walking behind my class.

Sofia: My highlight was going swimming and hanging out with my friends.

Charlie: I loved going to Art all year. I liked drawing!

1/2 Wells:

Kieran: I’ve really enjoyed reading and writing.

Emily: Maths because at the start of the year I was very confused but now I know how to do lots of sums.

Ruby & Meg: The best thing was our excursion in Term 2 to Sovereign Hill. It was a fun day!

Dannon & Hayley: Inverleigh athletics

Science

We have had a great year in Junior Science with the students watching our weather, measuring plant growth, caring for our garden, investigating water properties and cycle, learning to recycle and reuse resources, and discover the curiosity of light.  Our students have conducted numerous experiments, made posters, entered competitions, planted seeds, grown daffodils and snow peas, harvested food, sorted recycling and become twitchers.

It has been an excellent year in Science and I can’t wait to see the students progress into informed young budding Scientists.  Well done!
