Mother's and Special Persons Day morning event

With Mother's Day taking place next Sunday (14th May), once again our Parents' Association will be helping our students and families to celebrate the special women in their lives.

Following last year's successful event, this will take place at school from 8am on Friday 12th May.

The fathers in the parents association will be offering a delicious croissant and drink (coffee or juice) for sale at $5, accompanied by some soothing piano music.

Get to school early on the day and allow your child to treat you and say thanks for being such wonderful mothers and special persons.

A huge thank you to Lyndon Galvin (dad of Munroe 5/6S and Elliot 1/2A) for making this great event happen again. If there are any dads who would like to support the event on the day, get in touch with Lyndon at lyndon@iscagroup.com.au

Enrolling for 2024?

Whilst 2023 feels like it has only just begun, we are already starting the process of planning ahead and enrolling students for next year.

To support us, if you have a child starting at school next year, we would appreciate you completing and returning an enrolment form to the school office as soon as possible. These are available to collect from the school office.

We are currently running regular school tours for prospective parents - if you know of anyone who has a child starting school in 2024 and is interested in sending them to SKiPPS, please encourage them to sign up for a tour at https://compasstix.com/e/dvo8kfxguw

Education Department policy states that the deadline for families to submit their Foundation 2024 enrolment forms to schools is Friday 28th July.

Run Club - starting this week

We are excited to announce that our Friday morning 'Run Club' will be starting again on Friday mornings in term 2 with the first club taking place at 8am this Friday (5th May)

Run Club is back!
Run Club is back!

After our call out for helpers in the newsletter, we have had two parents - Fraser Marsden & Ashley Gudgeon offer to take on the running of the club each Friday morning.

For those who have not been before, Run Club is open to everyone (students, parents and friends) with the aim being to complete as many laps of the oval as possible. We keep records of the number of laps completed over a year and students are challenged to build their fitness and get active before school.

We hope to see lots of you there for session #1. Just turn up and get involved!

A 'Chook House' for SKiPPS

We are excited to share news about a fun project taking place at SKiPPS this term. As a part of our commitment to sustainability and as a part of our kitchen garden program, we will be constructing a chicken coop at the school.

Having our own chickens will provide the program with their own fresh eggs and will contribute to the aims of the program - inspired by Stephanie Alexander's vision for 'pleasurable food education'. It will also allow us to reduce our food waste by using scraps to feed the chickens.

We will be working with Dugald Jellie to build the coop - Dugald is a local designer, writer, builder and all-round sustainability hero. He has worked extensively with many local schools and kindergartens to build a range of structures (including the amazing wicking beds at SKiPPS last year).

Dugald will work directly with a small group of students to design and build the coop - making it fox-proof and working with recycled and reclaimed building materials.

We will also have another small group of students who will document the whole process by making a short film to tell the story of the chicken coop.

Dugald will share some more information in our next newsletter and provide updates throughout the term.  We look forward to a grand opening of the chook house early in term 3!

Year 6 Market Day

On Friday 12th May our Year 6 students will be holding their annual Market Day at the school.

Market Day is a project that the Year Six students work on that has four aims;

  • to develop their leadership and organisation skills
  • to learn about financial literacy and build authentic concepts of supply and demand, profit, overheads and other entrepreneurial ideas.
  • to raise money for their yearbook and graduation
  • to help the rest of the school have fun

The students will work in groups and will each run a stall or activity on the day.

Students from other year levels are invited to attend Market Day and spend small amounts of money at the various market stalls. All of the money raised will go towards funding the Year 6 Graduation at the end of the year.

Each market stall will cost a student $1 - $3. Closer to the time, a notice will go home with further details about Market Day including the logistics of sending gold coins to school to allow your child to participate.

Sub-Committee Meetings

Our school has a number of permanent working groups called sub-committees. These groups are made up of staff members and dedicated parents who meet ten times a year with a focus to make our school a better place.

Sub-committees are open for anyone to join and rely on the energy, ideas and hard work of parents to improve the school experience for all of our students.

The groups are open for all parents to join and contribute to so feel free to come along to any of the following meetings.
