History
In Term 1 the two Elective History classes in Year 9 studied a unit of work titled Constructing History. The focus was on ancient Egyptian and Roman history and how they have been constructed by historians in so many different ways over many years. As part of the topic, the students each chose an artefact from one of the ancient civilisations. They researched its history and legacy, while also constructing their own replica of it. Attached to each replica artefact was a label which gave details of its origins and significance that would be suitable for a museum. Some of the best designed artefacts have been put on display at the entrance to the Senior Resources Centre. Thanks to Ms Mak for the time and effort into making this display so appealing and informative. Well done to the Year 9 historians who have completed this task so well.

Congratulations to our Young Archie Honourable Mentions!
The Young Archies is a portrait competition run by the Art Gallery of NSW that accompanies the Archibald Prize every year. This year several of our students entered artworks and we were delighted to learn that Finn McLean (Year 10) and Fergus Fung (Year 11) were selected for Honourable Mentions. Fergus entered his second portrait of Mr Anthony Timmins – a much-loved teacher and Music Coordinator who passed away last year, and Finn’s watercolour artwork is a portrait of his sporting enthusiast dad.
Finn's work is entitled 'Armchair Expert', and Fergus's work is entitled 'Asking Mr Timmins'.
There were more than 3,400 entries this year from which there were 70 finalists and 20 honourable mentions. That is a significant achievement for the boys. Their works will be displayed at the SH Ervin Gallery, from 6 May to 23 July 2023 alongside the Salon des Refusés Archibald Prize selection of works.
