Feast of Blessed Edmund Rice

This Friday 5 May we will assemble as a community to mark the feast day of our patron, Blessed Edmund Rice. Edmund was a man who possessed a profound sense of the dignity of every human person and a heightened sensitivity to the poor and the marginalised. At our assembly we will recall the events of Edmund’s life that led him to found the Chrisitan Brothers, an organisation that attempts to live the Catholic faith through good works – particularly those on the margins. Edmund’s spirituality can be summed up by his two most well known quotes, each of which can be found painted in the front foyer of the College. Through each social justice outreach initiative, we attempt to be people who 'Give to the poor in handfuls!', while every prayer at the college concludes with the beautiful line that shows what we desire, 'Live Jesus in our Hearts – Forever!' Our assembly will aim to continue to remind ourselves of the spirituality of Blessed Edmund Rice, as well as remind us of the legacy of which we are a part.

Chapel Mass

Our Chapel Masses will re-commence for Term 2 this Monday morning, 8 May, at 8:00 am. We thank, in anticipation, Mrs Zervakos’s Year 9 Religious Education class for hosting this Mass for us.

Youth Mass

Our next Youth Mass at Our Lady of Dolours Church will be held on Sunday 28 May at 5:30 pm. All students are welcome to join in the Mass, along with Mercy College students and the Youth Ministry Team of the parish, and to participate as readers and eucharistic ministers.

Eddie Rice Hours

We will join with the parish of Our Lady of Dolours in support of StreetWork, an organisation that assists those experiencing disadvantage in the area, by fundraising through a Bunnings BBQ on Saturday 13 May. Students from Year 11 will assist to ensure that necessary funds can be raised for those on the margins – completing work in the spirit of Blessed Edmund Rice.

If there are members of our community who work with those on the margins and they require the services of Year 10 and 11 students as volunteers, please contact me here at the college via nmulheron@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au
