Baristas Back in Action

The Barista Team set the bar high in Term 1 - to say thank you for their hard work, the Team was taken to LiveBetter's Cafe Connect so someone could wait on them for a change. The Barista Team is now a well oiled machine, with students independently taking orders, making coffees from start-to-finish and communicating with their teammates to make the best coffees they can.

The team was issued with certificates that make them full-fledged Anson Street Baristas!

And the team hasn't slowed up in Term 2! They're back into making coffees for staff and visitors every Tuesday and Thursday.

Trade Readiness Program

Last week Mr Low and Mr Wilson took some of our year 10 and 11 students to Tafe for a Trade Readiness course in Carpentry.  The 2-day course is an introduction to Construction as a career. Students learnt about safe work practices, reading plans, handling of tools and worksite preparation. They worked on building a folding chair, or ‘smoko stool’ as it’s called in the trade industry. Well done boys!

Work Experience at Wangarang

This term, Mrs Wykes and I have been supervising students at Wangarang Industries. The Stage 6 boys have been spending their Tuesday morning session practicing some work skills with the supportive Wangarang crew. We were greeted by friendly faces and reunited with some former students who were hard at work.

Wangarang aims to provide work and life enrichment to members of the community with a disability. They work closely with the people they support, their carers, and families to facilitate a nourishing workplace. Wangarang is a very warm and caring environment that truly allows everyone's abilities to shine.
