A Message from the Principal

Welcome back!

It is my pleasure to welcome our community back to Term 2 at our wonderful school. What better way to start the term than sharing some beautiful photos of our students participating in the Anzac Day March. Thank you to the students who attended this important community event.

I would also like to share a snippet of the amazing photos that our school photographer Damian Riches captured last week.

Staff Professional Learning 

On the first day of term our staff travelled to St Xavier’s Gunnedah to attend professional learning on VCOP and the Big Write. We have used this methodology to teach writing at St Joey’s for a number of years; however it is always good practice to reflect on our teaching practices and continually strive to improve. All staff in our diocesan schools will receive this refresher course this year.

Over the next few weeks we will be sharing lots of important information and tips on how parents/carers can assist their children at home, especially with talking about what students want to write. “If you can’t say, you can’t write it.” 

3 Way Parent Student Teacher Conferences

Over the next few weeks I encourage all parents/carers to attend the 3 Way Parent, Student & Teacher Conferences. The aim of these meetings is for your children to be able to showcase work they are proud of and it is also an opportunity for parental input into individual learning goals.   

Please follow these instructions to book your interview time with your child's teacher:

• Open in Browser
• From the Compass homepage click the hamburger menu button at the top left (three horizontal bars) and then select 'Conferences'.  
• To start the booking process click on the 2023 Term 2, 3 way conference option.
• Once you've selected the cycle you will first be shown a popup which contains information from the school. Read the message and click 'Okay' at the bottom to continue.   
• Select your student to proceed with booking. 
• Select your child's teacher from the Right Hand Side of the screen. 
• To book in just click an available (white) timeslot.
• This will open a booking popup for you to confirm. 
• Confirm booking

Bookings are made more easily from a device other than a phone.  If you are having trouble making a booking, please call Kate in the front office and she will be able to help you.
