Staff in the Spotlight

With so many staff joining our team this year, we would like to give our school community the opportunity to get to know our new teachers in a fun way. Each week we will be spotlighting a new staff member and sharing with you all sorts of fun and interesting stories about who they are and most importantly, why they became a teacher and what they love most about teaching! 

This week we are spotlighting Ozlem Alpcan.

We are super excited to have Ozlem joining our staff, adding depth and experience to our Science Team. Welcome aboard Ozlem!

How long have you been in Education?

5 years

What school/university or organisation have you come from?

Alkira Secondary College

Why did you decide to become involved in Education?

I worked as a Teaching Assistant during my post graduate studies in US and I knew that I enjoyed teaching. Also being able to be with my own kids during school holidays and to guide them in their school years was a big motivation. 

What do you love most about your job?

I like the potential of having a positive impact on someone's life. I also like the dynamic nature of it, everyday every class is different even if you teach the same thing.

What has been one of your best teaching moments?

When I saw the great results my Year 12 students got. The feeling you experience when you see that hard work by both parties has paid off is priceless.

What are three things you would like your students to know about you?

I am a great listener if they need one. I am a huge Spotify fan, spending thousands of hours every year exploring different music genres and listening to various podcasts. I like to spend time in my garden.

Where's your favourite holiday destination?

Anywhere with balmy weather, good food and welcoming people. I love travelling.
