On the evening of Friday 31 March, all of the Piano students gathered for their first Soiree of the year. Instrumental Music conducts Soirees for all Instrumental Music students (including Voice), just one of the many performance opportunities that students get to participate in throughout the year.
Being so early in the academic year, and with Term 1 being such a busy time for many students, performing in the Term 1 Soiree can be a daunting prospect. Some students had only received less than a handful of lessons before the Soiree date. That being the case, it was wonderful to see so many Piano students taking part, showing their determination and willingness to take on a challenge.
There was a wide variety of abilities, skills and genres on display, with students from beginner to advanced, Year 7 to Year 12. The repertoire included movie themes, classical Sonatas, improvised works, and everything in between. Students enjoyed being able to watch each other perform - a rare treat.
The Term 1 Soirees are a relatively informal event, designed to give all Voice, String, Percussion, Electric Bass & Guitar, Piano, Brass and Woodwind students experience in utilising performance skills, celebrating and sharing their achievements thus far, and setting the tone for learning for the year ahead.
Audiences were comprised of friends and family who listened attentively and gave rapturous applause for each performance.
On behalf of all the Instrumental Music teachers, Mr Andrews and I would like to thank all families for helping to create such a positive atmosphere for our students to perform in, and for their continued support as students continue their instrumental music journey.
Our Voice students and Symphonic Band gave fantastic performances at Discovery and were excellent ambassadors of our program. Thank you to all students (and their families) for attending.
Our five Contemporary Bands have performed at lunch times over the last couple of weeks to very receptive audiences! Well done on overcoming your nerves to perform for your peers!
