Year 7 Signage Projects

7J have worked extremely hard to complete their signage products for their chosen end users. They have applied a range of different surface techniques to ensure they have a good quality finish including; painting, wood burning and laser cutting.

We are super proud of their final outcomes!

Well done 7J!

Year 7 Art

These creative people are 7A Art students, who are currently making Pop Art sculptures in the style of artist Claes Oldenburg.

Oldenburg was part of the Pop Art ('popular art') movement of the late 1950s to the early 1970s. Pop Art took inspiration from things that were popular at the time, like rock’n’roll, colour television and hamburgers, just to name a few.

Oldenburg was a Swedish-born American sculptor who often collaborated with his wife to create public art installations. His common themes for his art included large replicas or soft-sculpture versions of everyday objects. The Guggenheim Museum in New York says Oldenburg used these objects to reflect 'American society's celebration of consumption'.

7A Art students are making large sculptures out of papiér mâché. These photos show them at the construction stage of this task. Later, these sculptures will be given an undercoat of white paint before being painted in bright colours and slogans.

What an imaginative and productive bunch! Loving seeing such fantastic team work, 7A!

Term 1 Wrap Up

It's been a big term in Art and Technology, with the start of our newest lot of Tech rotations and the beginning of new subjects for our Year 9 and 10 students across the Learning Area.

Our students have displayed some incredible talent in their subjects which we have seen displayed in A Block and D Block.

In Technology we have had some mouth-watering aromas coming from B Block kitchens where our students have made recipes such as Spanakopita, Tacos and Mac & Cheese.

We have seen an incredible amount of Soft Toys created, Bunting ready to be hung up in Textiles, Flashing Light Circuits in Year 8 Systems and some impressive Autonomous cars in Integrated Systems Engineering.

In Product Design our Year 7's have learnt the basics and created a sign while our Year 8's have created some habitat boxes for our local wildlife.

In Art we have seen our Year 9 students working on some Australian Impressionism and painting the incredible views from our courtyards while our Junior students have learnt a range of drawing techniques and come up with some incredible work.

Visual Communication students at Year 8 have been working on Milk Carton designs using Isometric techniques which have been very impressive to anyone looking through the A Block areas.

Our Ceramics class has been working on creating functional pieces while making sure they are aesthetically pleasing and not susceptible to breaking in the kiln.

It has been a massive term for us all and we are looking forward to more incredible things happening through the rest of the year!

A reminder to enter Artisan of the Month and follow our Instagram for more photos of what we get up to.

Discovery Night

We had a very successful Discovery Night in Art and Technology with some superstar students supporting the team and speaking to families throughout the event.

These students are wonderful role models and kept everyone engaged with the following activities during the eventing: Cupcake Decorating, Lino Printing and Laser Cut Puzzle activities.

Hi, I’m Charlotte. I’m one of our Arts and Technology captains at Wantirna. I loved Discovery Night; it was so much fun, and I really enjoyed meeting all the families that came along. It was amazing to see all the beautiful artwork that our community created.
