Year 9 Snowy River Campus

School For Student Leadership

School for Student Leadership is a Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) initiative offering a unique residential education experience for Year 9 students. The curriculum focuses on personal development and team learning projects sourced from students' home regions. There are four campuses in iconic locations across Victoria and each year six of our Year 9 students attend the Snowy River Campus near the mouth of the Snowy River at Marlo in east Gippsland, for one school term. Here is the final report from this year's students:

Post Visiting Weekend

On the long weekend everyone got the weekend off to see their parents and family. By the look on everyone’s faces the mood seemed to be ecstatic, we were all getting prepared for our family to arrive.

After coming back from visiting weekend it was a bit hard to settle in as we had just been seeing our families and connecting with them. Getting straight back into classes was a bit challenging because we were all so hyper and it was harder to concentrate. It took us a while to readjust, but we got there eventually, everything’s running smoothly and we’re all having a good time.

A highlight for us would be Expo 2, it was good to get out of our comfort zone and push us to our limits. Expo 2 goes over 3 days, the first being a 10km hike with 20kg packs, the second being canoeing for 13km, and the third being a hike up Mount Raymond.  Its elevation height is 3,121m, and 293m above sea level. We only do 2 Expos at our time here so that was our final one.

We’ve all realised that we only have 2 weeks left here, so we’re trying to become better leaders and take on more opportunities. Our time here at the SSL has been amazing and one to remember, we’ve met new people that will be lifelong friends. Coming back, we hope to be more confident in ourselves and be better leaders.
